Wilma Jean Phillips

Wilma Jean Phillips went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 16, 2022. She was 84 years old.

Jean was born April 26, 1938, in Pound, Virginia to Delbert and Victoria Kiser. She was one of eight children. She attended school in Pound until she married Verlon Phillips on Saint Patrick’s Day, 1956, and they were married for 68 years. They had three children, Greg, Robert and Patty.

She moved from Virginia to the Oregon Coast in 1960, and lived in Coquille, Oregon until her husband moved for work in 1992 to Roseburg, Oregon.  They remained there until finally moving to Chandler, AZ in 2017. She was a homemaker most of her life, but after her youngest child left home, she got her GED and became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked for several years.

Jean left a legacy of love as she welcomed people into her home and made them part of her family, including Erin Pearce and Thomas Hoey. She was known as “Ma” to those close to her and she loved caring for people, especially children. She was always making something for loved ones, either crocheting or quilting. If you were a child at her house during the summer you spent time stringing and breaking beans to prepare for the hours, she spent canning. She loved to read, loved shopping and she had learned well the art of visiting.

She is survived by her children, Greg Phillips, Robert “Bob” Phillips and Patty Campbell, her bonus family, Thomas Hoey and Erin Pearce. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dawn, Nick, Kelsey, Rachel, Kristina, Sam and Kassidy and her great-grandchildren, Jory, Jayton, Jezrah, Tucker, Gracie, Oakley and Raegan.
