Ross Thomas Straw

Ross Thomas Straw

, 64, a long time resident of Chandler, Arizona, passed away peacefully at Parkland Memory Care on Wednesday morning, November 23, 2022. He is preceded in death by his mother, Martha (Thomas) Straw and his brother Ralph “Tre” Straw III.

Ross was born on January 19, 1958, to Ralph & Martha Straw in Odessa, Texas. As a child, he moved to Idaho and spent many days on his grandparent’s farm. Living near the mountains is where he began his love of skiing. He skied every chance he got, and he became so good that he was asked to join the Olympic ski team as a teenager. His love of skiing was a lifelong activity. Ross’ other interest was his love of welding and had a very successful career. At a young age his grandfather taught him how to do basic welding and he further refined his craft by joining the UA Local 469 and did many types of jobs. He was able to travel to different jobs and he was a mentor to many in the trade. He worked at Intel for the last 22 years of his career before he retired. In retirement he developed another hobby, making lampwork beads. It was a natural transition, as it used all the same skills and techniques, he had been using his whole life.

In 1986 he met his wife, Jackie, and they soon found out they had many similar interests. One date led to many, and they were married on April 12, 1991. Although Ross said he didn’t want any children, he did inherit 4 adult children and had a very special relationship with each of them. Ross and Jackie traveled for the first few years of their marriage allowing them to experience much of the country together. Ultimately, they returned to Chandler, Arizona where they settled down, bought a house and enjoyed their blended family.

Ross was a kind, gentle and compassionate man that will missed terribly by many, especially his family. He is survived in death by his father, Ralph Straw, his wife, Jacqueline Straw, his daughter Taylor Straw, his stepchildren, Teri Smithers (Phil), Cheryl Marth, Steven Marth, Christina Marth and his grandchildren Dylan, Jared and Andrew.

The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out to them during this sorrowful time and ask that in lieu of flowers, to please consider a donation in Ross’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org/site/donation or Always Present Hospice, 1400 N.
