Opal Elizabeth (Libby) Bowcut Pratt
died peacefully on August 21, 2017 in Chandler Arizona at the age of 87. She is survived by her four children, Patsy Ann (Randy) Baker, Steven Ira (Christine) Pratt, Cynthia Lynn (Richard) Gordon, and Wayne Ariel (Maren) Pratt. She is preceded in death by her husband Ira Wilford Pratt and her parents Ariel M. Bowcut and Cynthia Opal Angle.
Libby was born on July 15, 1930 in Prescott Arizona to Ariel M. and Cynthia Opal Bowcut. She attended elementary school in several locations including Phoenix Arizona. Her high school career started at Phoenix Union High School and she graduated from Gilbert High School in Gilbert Arizona in 1948. She attended business school for several months and then began her career as a bookkeeper for Western Feed and Seed. In 1953 she met Ira Wilford Pratt when he spoke in church after returning from his mission. He entered the service and they dated by phone and mail for several months. They were married on October 29, 1953 in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They resided in Colorado Springs and Louisville Kentucky while Ira was in the service. They then made their home in Gilbert, then Chino Valley Arizona, and finally to Chandler Arizona were she passed away. She was married to Ira for 19 years and lived the last almost 45 years as a widow. She always said she married the best and had no desire to find someone else.
They were blessed with four children, 2 sons and 2 daughters. There grandchildren number 13 and her great grandchildren number 31. Her family was her greatest blessing and she took pride in telling others that they all lived close to her. We will all miss her greatly and know that she is having a wonderful reunion with our Dad.
The viewing will be held at Bueler Mortuary on Friday August 25th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Services will be Saturday Morning August 26th with a viewing from 9:00-10:00, the funeral following. It will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, 650 S. Cooper Rd. Chandler Arizona.
