With profound sadness, we share our brother, Thomas Michael Moran, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 59 on August 21, 2024. He was surrounded by love from his sisters, Carolan and Patricia, his former wife, Jackie, and his brother from another mother, our cousin Chuck Lemoine. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Charles (Chuck) and Barbara Moran.
Tom was born in San Francisco, CA and was raised in Marin County. He attended Greenbrae School, St. Patrick’s School, and Marin Catholic High School. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. Tom was born with amazing intelligence, handsomeness and talent. Tom's sarcasm was uncanny, his wit was spontaneous, and he really loved to make people laugh.
Tom was raised in a multi-generational SF Giants fan-family, and his sweetest early memories were of going to Candlestick Park with his Grandpa, seeing Willie Mays play, as well as other SF Giant greats, including several playoff and World Series games. This would set the stage for his lifelong dedication to the Giants, never straying from attending SF Giants games either back in SF with his friends and family, or local to his hometown. He streamed MLB wherever he was.
Tom’s particular passion for golf led to his business career, where he garnered a high level of respect and trust in his specialty line of work in golf finance and executive management, as well as in his private consultancy practice. He was sought out and recommended for his expertise in the golf finance management industry. Tom also maintained Univ of Penn connections at many nationwide mixers and get togethers to help coach and mentor potential new students to Penn.
All in all, Tom’s passion for most sports was legendary. A young little leaguer, and then adult golfer, Tom also enjoyed participating in many sports. Like his Dad, Tom was an excellent armchair golf commentator of the PGA circuit for much of his life. He missed his likely true calling as a play-by-play NFL commentator, and maintained a better record as a home-based human instant replay football referee than those on the actual fields. He also was an amazing handicapper for horse racing, studying the horses and jockeys.
Yet his enduring friendships, formed throughout his life, stand as the cornerstone of Tom’s legacy, reflecting the deep love and genuine friendship he gave and received from those who knew him for decades.
All of us closest to Tom share our deep and immense feelings of loss of him leaving too soon. Tom’s family would like to express our profound gratitude to the staff, doctors and nurses at Banner Regional Hospital in Chandler, AZ, for their care, skill and compassion they showed our brother during his short time there.
A private gathering will be held this fall in San Francisco in support of Tom’s wishes. To honor Tom, we encourage donations to: San Francisco Giants Community Fund, Willie Mays Scholars, MD Anderson Cancer Center, or a charity of one’s choice.
