Shirley A. Davis

Shirley Ann Davis

, 82, from Chandler, Arizona died on May 6, 2016 following a courageous two-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Shirley was born on October 3, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois.  She grew up in Chicago and was married in 1956 and had 5 children.  Along with her family, she moved to Arizona City in 1968 where she enjoyed being a mom and raising her 5 children.  She also lived in Mesa, Scottsdale and Flagstaff.  Shirley was an avid gardener who enjoyed spending countless hours beautifying her home’s landscaping wherever she lived.

In the early 80’s, she was the proud owner of The Cricket Shop which was a women’s swimwear and resort wear boutique located in the fashionable Fifth Avenue shopping area of Scottsdale.  Shirley spent time as a volunteer for the Red Cross.  She also loved to travel and has been to many places around the world including China, Europe, Australia and many states in the US.

When Shirley had her mind set on something she was very determined and dedicated herself to succeed at that cause.  When she decided to get serious about her health just a few years ago, she joined Medifast, lost over 50 pounds and also enlisted Kathy Martinez who owns Empowering Bodies Personal Training  to help her achieve her fitness goals.  Kathy later became a very dear friend along with former Flagstaff neighbor Sarah Cromer.  Shirley enjoyed her semi-weekly training sessions and became so physically fit that one of her doctors described her as an 80 year old in a 60 year old body.  Even after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Shirley kept her positive outlook and was determined to make the best of things telling everyone that she did not want anyone to feel sorry for her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her older sister Jean Wells, and her son Kevin Davis. She is survived by her younger brother Richard “Dick” Drehobl, sons Curt Davis (wife Therese), Keith Davis (wife Brenda), Kenny Davis (wife Patty), daughter Karen Helin (husband Mark), 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Shirley’s strong will to live, loving heart and giving spirit were an inspiration to everyone.  She always put others before herself.  Shirley will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In keeping with Shirley’s wishes there will be no funeral service.
