Sandra Gordon Yost, nee Clayton of Chandler, AZ passed away peacefully at home on December 1st, 2015 after a year-long struggle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
Sandy was born in Phoenix to Max Milton Clayton and Jane Gordon (Parker) Clayton, on November 18th, 1953. She studied art at Glendale Community College.
Sandy was an active volunteer in the Mesa School District for over fifteen years, including parent leadership positions at Sirrine Elementary, Hendrix Junior High, and Dobson High. She worked at Family Optometry in Chandler, AZ, and Quilter’s Ranch in Tempe, AZ. Later, Sandy became actively involved in local Democratic Party volunteer efforts. Sandy was a third-generation native of Phoenix and had a lifelong love of the Arizona desert and mountains. She loved gardening, and was dedicated to the preservation of native plants.
Sandy will be deeply missed by her husband of 42 years, David Eric Yost; her daughter Amy Gordon Yost and son-in-law Jeffrey Farnsworth of Tucson, AZ, and her son Jeffrey Alan Yost of Seattle, WA; her brother Fred Reece Clayton and his family; her niece Sarah Yost; and her brother- and sister-in-law and their families.
A memorial service will be held in late December for close friends and family members.
Sandy’s family would like to thank the ALS Association Arizona Chapter, and request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the ALS Association Arizona Chapter or Boyce Thompson Arboretum. The best way to remember Sandy will be to get out and vote in local, state, and national elections.
