Roy Pershing Mink
passed peacefully on December 24, 2018. He was born in Rockholds, Kentucky on February 26, 1919. He graduated from Knox Central High School in Barbourville, Kentucky. Roy served in WWII for five years in the Pacific Theater with a rank of staff sergeant in the Army Air Force. Roy’s tours of duties included New Guinea, Okinawa, and the Philippines, where he met his wife of 56 years, Rosario. After the war, Roy studied art at the Cincinnati Art Academy and the Pittsburgh Art Institute. He was employed as a commercial artist at the Nazarene Publishing House in Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked as an illustrator for religious teaching materials. His work included book covers, children’s Bible presentations, and missionary projects. He retired in 1981 to Nashville, Tennessee and later moved with his wife to Chandler, Arizona. Roy was active in the Crossroads Nazarene Church there in counseling, outreach, teaching, evangelism, and men’s ministries. Roy spent a lifetime in Christian service in these activities. He was an outstanding athlete, participating in baseball and basketball. As a fan, he was an avid supporter of the Cincinnati Reds baseball team and the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. Other interests included portrait painting, travel, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Roy is survived by his brother Harley, daughter Maridel, son Curtis, daughter-in-law Terri, and granddaughter Tamara.
