Robert Louis Sanders was born July 10, 1933, in Talbotton, Georgia to the late Lennie and Willie Mary Sanders. Along with 1 brother and 2 sisters Robert was the youngest of the 4 children born to their union.
Robert joined the United States Air Force and traveled to various places including Azores, Portugal, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, and Stead Air Base, Nevada as well as serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After 20 years Robert retired from the Air Force and began a career as a long-distance truck driver for Interstate Trucking.
In retirement Robert moved from Reno, Nevada to Chandler, Arizona where he resided for over 25 years until he peacefully departed this life on June 10, 2024. He leaves to cherish his memory, his partner Gloria Miles, sisters Ella Bess Harvey, of Talbotton, Georgia, Dorothy Underwood of Lakeland, Florida, brother Herbert Sanders, of Atlanta Georgia; four children, Robin Sanders of Queen Creek, Arizona, Robert Len Sanders of Seattle, Washington, Rodney Sanders of Reno, Nevada, Christopher Wiltz (LaShawn) of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren, Britni
(Alonzo), Cameron (Ariel), Christopher, Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Leyla, Micah, Hazo, Silas, Roman and Naomi; in addition to his favorite sister-in-law Mrs. Margie Holyfield, lifelong family friend Mrs. Ruth Bennett, and longtime neighbors Curt and Debbie Golden, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and loyal friends.
Services for Robert L. Sanders are as follows:
A Viewing will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm with a Funeral Service from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at Whitney & Murphy Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Drive, Chandler, AZ 85225. A Graveside service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 10:30 am at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
