Michael John Roberts

January 2, 1960 — January 3, 2025

Michael John Roberts was born at Boston’s Chelsea Naval Hospital on January 2, 1960. He peacefully passed away on January 3, 2025.

He is preceded by his mother, Carol S. Roberts, father, Thomas S. Roberts, Sr. and youngest brother, James D. Roberts.

He is survived by sisters, Suzan J. Bawolek and Cynthia R. Newman and brother Thomas S Roberts Jr. along with their spouses and nieces and nephews.

Mike’s younger years were spent in Amesbury, MA, his mother’s hometown and while his father served at sea in the US Coast Guard. In 1974 the family moved to Marana, AZ. There he developed lifelong friendships, especially when trampling around the desert honing his outdoor skills.

He served four years in the US Coast Guard as a ship’s electrician mate. At one time, he was based in New Hampshire on the USCG Active about 10 years after his father served on the same ship. As a proud Uncle supporting three of his nephews, he attended the boot camp graduation ceremonies for the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard.

He returned to Arizona where he attended Pima Community College and the University of Arizona. He was a proud Wildcat, especially following the basketball team. He earned a degree in civil engineering focusing on hydrology. He started his own business, Del Rio Engineering, in 2005. Some of his clients became lifelong friends.

He was an outdoorsman and would hunt and fish with his nephews and friends. A hunting highlight was being drawn for buffalo on the Grand Canyon’s North Rim. Alas, he didn’t get one. However, he had more luck fishing at his favorite spots, Marble Canyon and Big Lake.

When not outdoors, you could find him inside honing his ballroom dancing skills.

Mike’s loyalty, humor, and devotion to family and friends are qualities we can all strive to achieve.
