Marlan Roy Layton, 89, passed away on February 6, 2025 peacefully in his home.
Marlan was born on May 12th, 1935 in Central, Arizona to Merle Mangum and Roy Layton. He grew up with his 3 sisters, Carol, Linda, and Annice, and spent his early years in Safford, Arizona.
He attended ASU and earned a teaching degree. He was in the National Guard in college. He was a teacher for 33 years and specialized in special education.
Marlan married Lucille Turley, and together they built a loving home in Chandler, Arizona. They were blessed with two sons: Derek and Darwin Thomas. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and took great joy in reading stories to his granddaughter, Sarita Layton, when she was a child.
Marlan always brought joy and care to those around him. He was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of tithing and eternal families.
He is survived by his two sons and his granddaughter, and many other loving family members and friends.
Marlan will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love he freely shared. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A Graveside Service will be held February 14, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Valley of the Sun Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, AZ 85248.
