Kaylene Lott Peterson returned to her Heavenly Father on March 1, 2024, at the age of 81. Kaylene was born on September 27, 1942, in Malad, Idaho to Clifton Blaine and Reva Ann Cullen Toponce Larson. She grew up in a loving family alongside her siblings, Dean, Ila Jean and preceded in death by her sisters Trudy and Terry. For most of her life Kaylene lived in Ogden, Utah, but she also lived in Chandler, Arizona, Salt Lake City, Utah and Sun Lakes, Arizona.
Kaylene married Val Dean Lott in 1960. They enjoyed many decades of marriage and raised three cherished children together before divorcing in 2008.
She is survived by her children Valerie Sowers (Rodney) of Chandler, Arizona, Linda Lott of Tempe, Arizona, Darin Lott of Hooper, Utah, along with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She faithfully endured the loss of her first granddaughter Morgan Lott in March of 1990 and her beloved Kevin in March of 2021.
Kaylene was blessed with the amazing gift of design. To enhance this gift, she graduated from ICS in Scranton, Pennsylvania with a degree in Interior Design, then continued her education at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah in both design and architecture. She was a professional member of the International Society of Interior Designers. After starting her career working at VanKampens in Ogden, Utah, she built her skills, ability and confidence and opened up her own design studio, Kaylene Interiors, in Ogden, Utah. This design studio was very successful and afforded her the wonderful opportunity to fulfill the dreams of many clients in achieving their perfect home/workspace. She continued her passion, utilizing her many gifts, and continued in the industry by working out of her home well into retirement. Many clients, friends and family are the grateful recipients of Kaylene’s talents and gifts.
She very much enjoyed her church callings which included being a Relief Society President and 1st Counselor in the Primary. She was honored and valiantly served her Heavenly Father as a Guest Service Missionary on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah and also served as an Ordinance Worker in the Gilbert, Arizona Temple.
Kaylene loved to travel and spent time visiting Europe, Canada, Alaska, and various destinations within the Unites States, but she absolutely adored Hawaii.
In 2018 Kaylene met and married the love of her life, Duane Peterson, in the Salt Lake Temple. Duane fought valiantly, but ultimately lost his battle with cancer and passed away in 2020 with Kaylene by his side every step of the way.
Kaylene’s influence, kindness, gentle spirit and genuine love for all she came in contact with, both in the church, in her professional life, and most especially within her family, will be felt for many years to come.
In her own words Kaylene expressed how blessed and grateful she was for the many friends she had in her life. But Kaylene’s ultimate relationship was with her Savior and can be summed up in her own words: “I am most grateful for my Savior and His atoning sacrifice, knowing that families can be together forever”.
