Katherine “Kathy” Yovine Brown Uhles passed to join her Lord and family on August 7, 2023. Kathy was 84 years of age at the time of her passing. She was the mother to three children, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Kathy, or Yovine as she was affectionally known by her family, was born in Okemah, OK on December 13, 1938, to Perry and Alma Robeson Brown. Kathy had three older sisters.
As a girl, Kathy’s parents moved their family to Yuba City, CA to seek work. It was there that she met William (Bill) Uhles. Bill was 17 and Kathy was 16 but they were a fit.
Bill and Kathy were married on January 19, 1955. In November of 1955, Kathy gave birth to twin boys, Ronald & Donald. Less than one month after the birth of her sons the town of Yuba City suffered a massive flood. At this same time, Bill was in a hospital recovering from surgery. It was then that she showed her grit; surviving from this event after losing all their possessions and caring for her two infant sons.
In 1967 Bill and Kathy moved to Chandler, AZ for a promotional opportunity for Bill at the new sugar factory south of Chandler, Spreckles Sugar. In 1971 Kathy gave birth to a daughter Kimberly. Kathy remained in the Chandler/Gilbert/Maricopa area for the rest of her life.
Kathy loved to crochet; it was how she showed her love. She made it a point to crochet afghans for all her grandchildren. The number of towels, blankets, and other crochet items she made easily numbered in the hundreds.
Kathy is survived by her sons Donald (Julie) and Ronald (Kathy); her daughter Kimberly (Eric); her grandchildren, Melissa, Tracy, David, Katelynn, Alex, and Marissa; seven great-grandchildren Ethan, Calvin, Aiden, Henry, Andrew, Jacob, and Dahmari, sister-in-law Carol (Chester), and several nieces and nephews. Kathy was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1996, her grandson Adam in 2005, her parents Perry and Alma; and her sisters Ernestine, Deline, and Christine.
A private remembrance will be held at a later date.
