Jean Barbara Zidan, 93, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jean was born March 5,1931, in Portland, Oregon to Thomas and Zibde Zidan, both Lebanese immigrants. She lived in Portland until her early twenties, working in the family clothing business. Jean then moved to Mesa, Arizona to be closer to her sisters and stayed in the East Valley. Throughout her life Jean was known for her hard work, community involvement and a passion for Christ and knowing that with Jesus, all things are possible.
Jean was a female trailblazer in local banking, first working for United Bank of Arizona and then as the Downtown Mesa branch manager for North American Bank. Jean finished up her working career at the Tempe Union High district office until she retired.
More than anything else, Jean was devoted to her family and friends. She was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor.
As an active member of Grace Community Church, Jean served as the Music Ministry Coordinator, performed in the Living Christmas Tree, and helped in Sunday school for many years.
There was always a special place in Jean’s heart for the Mahnah Club of the East Valley. After joining in the 1970’s, Jean was instrumental in helping the Child Crisis Center flourish and served as the Center Guild President. She was awarded The President’s Service Award in 2015 and was thrilled to be a part of the 65th Anniversary Celebration as a Lifetime member. She made some of her best friends through Mahnah club.
Jean was a member of Chapter K and later transferred to Chapter CP of the P.E.O. Sisterhood which supports educational opportunities for women, especially Cottey College.
Jean was an avid bridge player and in later life loved game shows.
Jean is survived by her identical twin sister Joan Saba, and many nieces and nephews who she treated as her own children.
