Family and Friends – We are saddened to announce that our mother, Jane Eubanks, passed away in the early morning of September 9, 2023. She passed away peacefully and comfortably in the Ahwatukee Foothills community of Phoenix, AZ.
Jane was born to William (Bill) and Ellen (Vinje) Ponticell on August 23, 1947. Her twin sister, Janet passed soon after birth. Jane’s younger sister Gayle (Aylward) preceded her in death in 2007. Jane graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1969, where she met her husband, John AnDrew Eubanks, who preceded her in death in 2005. She had two children: daughter Kristen and son John (Jay) Eubanks.
Jane dedicated her career to being an outstanding elementary school teacher, first in Illinois from 1969-1986, then moving to Arizona in 1986 -2009. She completed her master’s degree in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University in 1985. While teaching in Arizona, she spent her whole tenure teaching for the Kyrene School District at C.I. Waggoner and Kyrene de los Lagos elementary schools. She was thrilled when she was asked to teach the Native American program. Jane earned her National Board Certification in 1999.
In 2003, Jane welcomed her grandson, Adlai Eubanks, from her former daughter-in-law, Olivia Kortuem. Following her retirement from teaching in 2009, she would spend her summers volunteering for Ad’s swim team and spending time with her grandson, family and friends in Northern Virginia. Other times of the year, she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends from teaching, and numerous other individuals she met through her interactions within the communities of Ahwatukee Foothills in Phoenix, Arizona, and Woodlawn in Fairfax, Virginia.
She is survived by her daughter Kristen (51), son Jay (46), and grandson Adlai (20), as well as countless loved ones dear to her heart.
