Jane B. Cornell
passed away on April 5, 2018 after a long struggle with leukemia. She was surrounded by her family. She is survived by her long time significant other Tom Atkins, her twin sister Jean (husband Craig), her 2 children David (wife Jen, children Vivi and Sophia) and Catherine (husband Robert, children Christopher and David), and her step-children Tucker, Tammy, Tracy, and Terry.
Jane was born on April 22, 1938 and lived her early life on Hartford Street in Austin, TX. She graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in education before marrying David M. Cornell. She and David raised their 2 children in Houston, then Philadelphia. After a divorce from David, Jane moved to Estes Park, Colorado and began a career in general contracting and real estate. It was during this time that she met her beloved Tom. After an active career, both she and Tom grew tired of the Estes Park winter winds and began heading south to the Sun Lakes, AZ area for the winter during the early ‘90s before eventually moving to Sun Lakes full-time in 2009.
Jane was an avid tennis player her whole life (her children were tennis orphans growing up) and in later years when she couldn’t run around a tennis court anymore, she played pickleball. She was known for her mean strawberry daiquiris and her praline graham cracker cookies. Jane was always quick with a smile and willingness to lend a hand. She made friends wherever she went whether it was on the tennis court, walking her cherished dachshund Lily down the street, or in her final weeks at the assisted living facility.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, 1730 W Guadalupe Rd, Mesa, AZ followed by a reception at the Ocotillo Golf Club, 3751 S. Clubhouse Drive, Chandler, AZ. A Celebration of Life will be held in late summer in Estes Park, CO. In lieu of flowers, a remembrance can be donated to St. Vincent de Paul of Phoenix by going to
