Edward Saba

Edward Saba, 89, of Chandler, Arizona passed away peacefully the evening of Sunday, August 27, 2023 surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Edward was born in Chandler on August 8

th

, 1934. He was the fifth of seven children born to Adele (née Tibshraeny) and David Nehman Saba of Mesa, Arizona.

Edward graduated from Mesa High School. He later went on to college graduating from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy.  While attending college Ed was a member of Rho Chi and Phi Delta Chi pharmacy fraternities as well as the Greek Fraternity Alpha Tau Omega (ATO).  He later was the recipient of the Distinguished Citizen Award from the University of Arizona Alumni Association.  After graduation, Edward was honorably discharged after serving as a Staff Sargent in the 161

Edward married the love of his life, Christine Corey Saba on July 10

, 1966, over 57-years ago in Los Angeles, California.

In 1965 Edward moved to Chandler where he began working for Arrow Pharmacy, which he eventually purchased in 1966 and further expanded his involvement with retail Pharmacy by starting another store, Arrowhead Pharmacy in Chandler in 1976.

Edward was later honored by the Arizona Pharmaceutical Associations in 1978 recipient of the A.H. Robins “Bowl of Hygeia” Award for outstanding service to his community. He was also one of five founders of United Drug in 1975 to help serve independent pharmacies.   He received a National Advisory Board Appointment from Warren Teed Pharmaceutical Company in 1976.

Edward was appointed by Rose Mofford, Governor of Arizona, in 1988 as a Member of the State Board of Pharmacy through 1993.  He also served as President of the Arizona State Board during his tenure. Edward served on several other professional boards including, Member of the National Associations of Retail Druggists, Past President and Member of the Board of Directors, Arizona Pharmaceutical Association, Member and Past President, American Associated Druggists Corporation, Member of American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, Member, American Colleges of Apothecaries and Member of Maricopa County Pharmaceutical Association.

Edward was a pillar in the Chandler Community.  He established organizations in his community by being a founding member of Chandler Compadres in 1981.  He was also actively involved in Chandler Rotary for over 50-years previously serving as Chairman to most recently leading the 50/50 raffle.

Edward will be best remembered for the love of his family and his passions of fishing, hunting, gardening, and cooking.  He leaves behind his devoted wife, Christine Corey Saba and his three daughters Stephanie Susan Saba Anderson (Scott Anderson), Lisa Christine Saba Root (David Root), Corey Anne Saba Basha (David Basha), and his seven grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:30am Saturday, September 16

th

at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 901 West Erie Street, Chandler, Arizona 85225.  There is extra parking available across the street in the adjacent parking lot to the church.
