Dorothy Jean Cantrell Griffith

Dorothy Jean Cantrell Griffith, a native of Arizona, passed away at home at age 92 on September 27, 2024. Jean was born June 25, 1932 in Tempe as the only child of Dorothy and Harvey Cantrell. 

Jean was raised in Tempe, graduated from Tempe High in 1950 and married Daniel Dean Griffith of Chandler shortly thereafter. Jean and Dean are the parents of three daughters, Diane Griffith (KJ), Debra Wells (Earle), and Jayne Urbina (Parris). They have 11 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. 

Jean began working at Chandler Public Library in 1959 and continued pursuing higher education while working part time. She watched the library grow and move from building to building, eventually becoming library director and retiring in 1988. She graduated from ASU along with her middle daughter in 1977. Jean loved reading, traveling, and attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events. She took a final trip in August and was able to enjoy being with family then. 

Jean cared about many charities and causes, especially those having to do with animals and children. 

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 17817 South McQueen Road in Chandler. 

A Viewing and Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 9:45 AM with services at 10:00 AM.
