Daniel Conrad Mortensen

February 18, 1953 — March 26, 2025

It is with loving memories that the family of Daniel Conrad Mortensen announces his passing on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Patti, his sweetheart and wife, was faithfully by his side.

Dan was born in Tucson, Arizona on February 18, 1953 to Keith Conrad Mortensen and Johanne Marie Sorensen Mortensen. Their family moved to the East Valley early in his childhood.

Dan enjoyed all kinds of adventures growing up. He was a Boy Scout. He especially enjoyed getting together for many “cousin activities”, the annual Danish Christmas Eve dinners, family reunions and all the fun these family gatherings would bring! Dan really enjoyed riding horses at his Grandpa’s farm. His most favorite opportunities of all would be for any chance to go to Camp Tontozona where he would learn about and be able to nurture his love for the outdoors and, most importantly, learn how to fish from his Grandpa Mortensen on Tonto Creek!

While growing up in Tempe, Dan attended Mitchell Elementary School, Gilliland Junior High and Tempe High School. Dan loved the sport of swimming and the friendships he enjoyed on the team. He excelled in Freestyle events for the 50M and 100M Freestyle and was the anchor on Tempe High’s Freestyle Relay team. Dan was so proud that his swimming abilities allowed him to letter all four years in swimming while attending Tempe High School.

Dan continued his studies at Mesa Community College before serving as a successful missionary in Australia for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Upon his return from his mission, he had the calling and opportunity to fellowship the young adults in the Tempe 1st Ward. There was this one young lady, interested in possibly joining the Church who caught his eye. This young lady, Patti Patrick, would eventually become the love of his life. Dan and Patti were married and sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple on December 17, 1976. From this moment on, they built a life together they so loved. They lived in Central Phoenix and West Phoenix before settling in Mesa, Arizona. Over the many years, so many memorable and heart-filled adventures were shared including their love for animal rescue, travel, music, dancing, fishing, and serving others.

Dan was also very dedicated to his professional career. Initially, he worked in service positions and building maintenance, becoming the go-to-guy for professional wallpaper hanging. However, he soon realized his interest and abilities in computer systems and applications and became a Production Support Specialist for U-Haul International. Dan would eventually actively pursue using his skills and knowledge for the American Express Company working in many capacities including a Senior Programmer Analyst and, most recently, an Information Security Analyst I. He was well respected for his extensive knowledge as well as his personal commitment to excellence when it came to both his work ethic and team support efforts and friendships. Dan was recently honored by the American Express Company for his 30 Years of loyal and dedicated service.

Dan’s love for Patti was and is extraordinary and forever. Dan loved his rescued fur babies, his family, including his many cousins, his work colleagues and friends. Once you met Dan, your life was changed for the better! His quiet, inner strength was always accompanied by his fun sense of humor, a generous spirit filled with kindness and a true acceptance and genuine appreciation for all those whose lives he touched.

Dan is survived by his wife, Patti Mortensen and two brothers, Hans and Larry Mortensen. He was preceded in death by his father, Keith Mortensen, his mother, Hanne Mortensen Ouellette and two brothers, John and Erik Mortensen.
