th
1950 in Orange, New Jersey to Joseph George Soos and Martha Soos (Regad). During his childhood and early adult life Andy lived in South Orange, New Jersey. Upon graduating from Columbia High School, he attended New Jersey Institute of Technology (then known as Newark College of Engineering). He graduated from NCE in 1972 as a chemical engineer. During his career as an engineer, Andrew had a number of jobs in both industry and consulting firms. Among the places he worked were Engelhard Corporation, Essex Chemical, Hatco, RTP Environmental Associates, and Troy Chemical. Andrew was extremely proud of being a chemical engineer. Many times he felt that only chemical engineers could do things right. Andrew was also very active in the local chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and was a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
In 1985, Andy married Elise Marucchi. They share a love of pet cats and also traveling to many exotic places around the world. Along with history, this was his passion. He was always a pleasure to travel with because he seemed to know more than the travel guides. Andy particularly enjoyed exotic foods for testing how hot the spice level was and requesting food cooked rare. Upon returning home Andrew would write a detailed trip report and organize the photos to tell a beautiful story.
In addition to traveling, Andy was also a very spiritual individual with peculiar lifestyle hobbies. He had a unique perspective on people and life. He enjoyed reading books about the other side, taking orb photos, and conducting tarot card readings with Marcus and his future daughter-in-law, Sarah.
He loved to write, do statistical analysis, and was an avid card player. He loved Bridge and was ready to play most card games. Andy being competitive, did not like to lose nor have his partner make mistakes. This spirited nature was displayed at frequent family night scrabble games with his wife Elise, son Marcus and Marcus’s fiancée Sarah.
Upon retirement in 2018, Andy moved to Maricopa, Az where he enjoyed the warm weather and the company of newly made friends.
Andy is survived by his wife Elise, daughter Martha and son Marcus, and future daughter-in-law Sarah White, sister-in-law Armida Macri, and nieces.
