Allen Conrad Nelson was born at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington on July 30th, 1948 and passed away July 25th, 2024 at his home in Gilbert, Arizona.
Allen was the 3rd child and only son of Frances and Conrad Nelson.
He grew up in North Beach, Ballard, Washington and lived in the same house until he went to college.
One of his family’s past times was picking wild blackberries (the small ones). His mom would then bake pies and make jam, which resulted in Allen’s lifelong love for homemade pies.
He attended Ballard High School where he excelled in football. He played defense and never really touched the ball BUT in one game he intercepted a pass and ran for a touchdown. It was so exciting for the family.
During his college years, he became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After graduation, he served a 2-year church mission in Uruguay and Paraguay. He had a successful mission and would draw from this most precious experience the rest of his days.
He made real estate appraising his career for 37 years.
He learned Spanish quickly and never lost his language abilities. Spanish was a lifelong passion and as a volunteer he continued to use his skills to help people prepare for the U.S. citizenship test at El Centro de la Raza in Seattle, Washinton. He did this for 8 years and helped many people succeed. He was an excellent teacher throughout his life. After moving to Arizona, he continued to volunteer and teach English as a second language at the Chandler Public Library. He received multiple awards and recognition for his dedication helping people learn English.
In addition to his volunteer work, other interests and hobbies included juggling, reading, playing the guitar, singing and digging for and collecting antique bottles.
He was an avid sports fan and rarely missed his children’s and grandsons’ sporting events.
He was an active member of the LDS Church. His last calling, which he loved, was teaching the 4 and 5 year olds with his wife.
He and wife, Randie, were married for all time and eternity in the Cardston Canada LDS temple on June 16th, 1973.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Randie, sons, Rick (Lara) and Rock, daughter Valerie, and grandsons, Brandon, Kyle and Ryan. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Elaine Nelson and Ruth Wilde and many nieces and nephews.
Allen will be remembered as a kind and faithful man and will be sorely missed.
