Chandler, Arizona – Lola J. Smith of Sun Lakes, Arizona was born JULY 14TH, 1927 at Paradise, Utah, passed away on March 13th 2018 at the age of 90 years. She was preceded in death by her parents John Russell and Pearl Thomas Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Dr. James G. Smith, her daughter Lynda Barnes (John) of Chandler, AZ , son Matthew J. Smith (Pam) of Boise, Idaho and sister Colleen Emery (Gayle) of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by her six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Lola’s life was devoted to loving and caring for her family. Lola’s grandchildren and great grandchildren, ages 49 years to 1 month, will always have many wonderful memories of the time spent with Grandmother Lola. Especially enjoyable were the many birthday and holiday celebrations held and vacation time with family and extensive travel with Jim. She had a lifetime of devoted service to her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lola served in many callings in both the Ward Relief Society and Stake Young Women’s organizations, advisor to the LDS Sorority at University of California Berkeley, and an Ordinance Worker in the Oakland California Temple. Lola and her husband, Jim, served a Medical Mission for the Church in Chile during their retirement years. She was loved and respected by both the young women and sisters with whom she associated. Lola was active in the Lafayette California Garden Club, serving as President, and volunteered for many years at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. Lola will be missed by her family and all who knew her for the goodness of her life. Memorial services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pleasant 3rd Ward located at 800 W. Chandler Heights Blvd., Chandler, AZ at 11:00 AM March 19, 2018.
