Remembering Joseph A. Chapman

Joseph Albert Chapman

passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 3, 2019 due to complications from a recent surgery. Joe is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Linda. He is also survived by son Jeff, his wife Katie, and two grandchildren, Ben and Keegan, of West Seattle, son Patrick of Mill Creek, and son Darren, and his wife Whitney, of Chandler, Arizona.

Joe was born and raised in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood and went on to graduate from Blanchett High School in 1965. Joe served as a corpsman in the US Coast Guard Reserves and married Linda DiMaio in August 1971 before finding his calling as a Seattle firefighter. He served with the Seattle Fire Department for thirty-three distinguished years before retiring as a Battalion Chief in 2002.

Joe enjoyed many passions throughout his life including fishing, bowling, playing ping-pong, golfing, playing cards, soaking in the hot tub, and talking sports – especially in the company of family and friends. Joe will always be remembered for his infectious personality, humor, wonderful stories, and competitive spirit.

A celebration of Joe’s life is planned for Sunday, December 15, 12 pm -3 pm at the Bothell Rental Hall (24323 Bothell-Everett Highway, Bothell, WA 98012). Family and friends are invited to share treasured memories together and enjoy a luncheon reception with many of Joe’s favorite things. The family will hold a private inturnment ceremony at Acacia Cemetery at a later date.
