John Clay Scremin
passed peacefully surrounded by his family on August 29, 2020 after battling cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Jimmy Ruth Scremin, sons John P. (Tamara) and Jim (Jennifer), his two grandchildren Jake and Jaycie and sister Sherry Hamilton.
John was born to Ernest and Beatrice Scremin in 1941 at St Joseph’s hospital in Phoenix. He graduated from Chandler High where he fell in love with, and later married, his high school sweetheart Jimmy Ruth Hamilton. After high school, John followed Jimmy Ruth to Northern Arizona University where he was an active member at the Sigma Pi fraternity.
After college John and Jimmy Ruth returned to Chandler and married in 1964. Together they raised two sons, John and Jim. He worked with his father, Ernie, at Ernie’s Refrigeration and, built the family business into the third-generation company it is today headed by his youngest son Jim.
In the 1970’s John started building custom homes and started John Scremin Development building homes in Prescott, Sedona and the East Valley. He was a charter member and past president of the Chandler Compadres; a member of the Sherriff’s posse; and, most recently, John served in an elected position as a Director on the Board for the Roosevelt Water Conservation District.
John was a true cowboy riding, roping and raising horses. For almost 40 years he was a member of the Los Rancheros Vistidores in Santa Barbara, California where he would attend an annual ride participating in horse racing and team roping.
John would want to be remembered as a man that loved his family and would do anything to support his kids and grandkids.
The family will be holding a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Chandler Compadres, Chandler Service Club, or Hospice of the Valley.
