Jean P. Coleman

Jean Patricia Demeyer Coleman

Jean passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday the 13

th

of November 2016, the evening of the super moon. Surely she caught a moonbeam from heaven, as it was the closest the moon has been to earth in years.

She fought a courageous battle against cancer. Her closest friends surrounded her bedside as she completed her journey.

Jean was born in Chicago on June 23, 1934 to Alois and Mathilde DeMeyer.

Jean was educated in Catholic schools, and upon graduation she enrolled in advanced studies to become a legal secretary.

Her working career included positions with many prominent Chicago law firms.

In the early 1950’s Jean met and married her soul mate, Richard P. Coleman. They were married on October 16, 1954 at St. Ignatius Church in Chicago. Jean and Dick had almost 50 years of married life before Dick passed away in 2004. They traveled the world and enjoyed many rounds of golf together. Her favorite course was the beautiful Gleneagle Course in Scotland. They made their home in Highland Park, Illinois, on Chicago’s north shore before retiring to Chandler, Arizona.

Jean’s days were filled doing museum quality needlepoint, completing the daily crossword and Sudoku puzzles, playing golf, and other games. She loved going to the movies and out to eat with her friends. And she loved anything chocolate.

Jean was a caring, thoughtful, and fun-loving friend who will be missed by many. She had a great sense of humor and brought laughter and smiles to the people around her.

She lived a full life, played a sport that she was good at, and retired in a community that welcomed and befriended her.

She is survived by her sister in law Eleanor McNamara as well as her niece Joani Jannelli, her nephew Dennis Demeyer, and her grandnieces Beth Bannon, Tara Demeyer, and Erica Jannelli, and grandnephew Colin Demeyer.

All her family resides in Connecticut.

Catholic services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at Saint Steven’s Church in Sun Lakes. Lunch will follow at the Springfield Recreation Center at 6495 St. Andrews Boulevard in Chandler.

Private internment will be at the National Cemetery in north Phoenix at a later date.

Donations can be made to Saint Vincent DePaul charities, and to the Springfield Blankie Sewing Group.

Arrangements have been made with Bueler Mortuary and Chapel in Chandler, Arizona.
