Glenn A. McCollum

, age 95, passed away on June 24, 2022. Born in Chanute, Kansas on July 11, 1926 to Kemp and Versa McCollum.

At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Air Force and was called to military duty on Christmas Day, 1944.  After World War II he came through Arizona to visit his brother stationed at Williams Air Base. During that time, he met his future wife, Ila Bearden, they married July 29, 1947.

Glenn was a legendary Chandler Architect, his career spanned 35 years and involved nearly 500 architectural projects.  Some of his architecture work includes: The First Church of the Nazarene in Chandler (1955), First Methodist Church in Chandler (1956), Tri-City Mall, Mesa, AZ. and Papago Plaza, Scottsdale, AZ.  He was on the Maricopa County Growth and Planning Committee, Chandler City Planning and Zoning Committee, City Council, Rotary Club and Lion’s Club, Nazarene Church Board, Choir Director and Congregational song Leader.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ila Mae Bearden McCollum, two brothers Ernest and Reginal McCollum, two grandsons Parker McCollum and Kevin Steelman. He is survived by his five children Peggy (Steve). Haase, Myra (Des) Wagner, Glenna (Ben) Cloud, Douglas (Penny) McCollum and Stephen McCollum, 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Glenn’s life is planned for 2:00pm Saturday, August 6

at the Chandler First Church of the Nazarene, 301 N. Hartford Street, Chandler. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chandler First Church of the Nazarene Chandler, AZ.
