Edward ‘Ed’ Louis Foster

Edward ‘Ed’ Louis Foster, Sr.

passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16th surrounded by his immediate family in the ICU at Dignity Health in Chandler, AZ. He was born in Albany, NY on July 21,1942 to Edward Weston Foster and Raffaela (DeAngelis) Foster. His father passed away in 1945 and his mother remarried to his step-father, John F. Pozzuoli in 1946. Ed is survived by his wife, Priscilla, his sister, Helen Fowler (Vaughn) of Queensbury, NY, his daughter Elizabeth Wilder (Ernie) and their son Ernie Wilder III of Fort Ann, NY, his daughter Elaine Taylor (Lisa) of Scottsdale, AZ, his son, Eddie Foster Jr (Marie) and their sons Edward Foster III and Armani Foster of Phoenix, AZ, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by several aunts, uncles and cousins. He grew up in the Glens Falls, NY area and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy High School in 1960. He attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO and Buffalo University in Buffalo, NY. He worked at different companies over the years and his favorite job was working in sales, mostly for flooring and home improvement products. He enjoyed talking to people and matching them with the best solution for their needs and having quite a few laughs during the sale. He also ran a few companies of his own, including Foster Electric and The Welcome Matt in Glens Falls, NY. Other jobs he held were salesman for the Tobin Meatpacking Company, Community Development Officer for the City of Glens Falls, and teaching basic electrical contracting to prisoners in the Comstock Max Security Prison in Washington County. He received the Salesman of the Year Award in 1970. He was most proud of his endeavors to plan, build, and develop the Glens Falls Civic Center, East Field Ballpark, and the Hockey Rec Center behind the YMCA. All three remain in use by the greater Glens Falls community today. During his 30s and 40s, he enjoyed spending time with his buddies at the “Buck Haven” hunting camp outside of Brant Lake in upstate NY, which they built together in the 1970s. He relocated to Phoenix, AZ in 1996, then moved to Mesa, AZ in 1997 and then to Sun Lakes in 2005. He retired from his last job with Toliver’s Carpet in 2007. He remained active in retirement with a regular golf game, riding his bike, fishing, time with family and involvement in the Sun Lakes community. He coached the St. Mary’s High School boys’ basketball and football teams as well as the semi-pro Glens Falls Green Jackets football team. Highlights from his high school days were playing football and working summers at the Millbrook bakery in Glens Falls. Ed is most remembered for his love of a good time, sharing stories, and filling those he loves with good food. His best food was his version of Villa’s Italian bread from Glens Falls. He spent years trying to bake a bread that was most like this hometown favorite. He became known for bringing his bread to many family gatherings. He also enjoyed making homemade sausage, salami, pasta sauce, and pizzas as well as working in his garden. Ed will be missed by his family and friends. We will remember his laugh, his smile, and his desire for us all to enjoy time together. He had a big Italian heart, filled with stubbornness, a fiery temper, fierce loyalty and a big, big love. The family is so appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from those that knew Ed. His sudden illness and passing has come as a shock. We believe that he has gone to a better place. There will be no calling hours or services. A small family gathering will take place on Sunday, March 19th between 1pm and 3pm at the family home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ed’s memory may be made to Fort Lewis College
