1944 – 2022
Cheryl L. Hank, 77, of Queen Creek, Arizona, passed peacefully in her sleep before sunrise on Sunday, January 23, 2022.
Born November 24, 1944, in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of Nellie M. Applegate and John L. Hank, Cheryl spent much of her school age years in New Jersey, graduating from Hasbrouck Heights High School in 1963. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Cheryl, or “Hanky-Pank” as she was known, spent several semesters at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT before returning home where she graduated from Berkeley Secretarial School.
After marrying in 1966, Cheryl boldly travelled west, settling in Arizona in 1980 where she raised five children – three girls and two boys. A loving and generous mother, homemaker, and legal secretary for over two decades, she will be fondly remembered for her loyal friendship, quick wit, delightful recipes, creative cooking, beautiful handwriting, and love of chocolate —her sweet tooth is something Cheryl believed was passed down to her from her mother and grandmother.
Remembering the past and reflecting on the future led Cheryl to spend much time focused on her family and family history — documenting the happenings of life to share with her children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by her youngest son,
Jonathan Castleberry
, she is survived by her children Todd Castleberry, Tina (Bill) Washburn, Paige (Scott) Wright, and Traci (John) Meyers, and six grandchildren who she said, “lightens up my life and brings hope and promise of better tomorrows.”
A private graveside service was held in her honor February 1, 2022, at the Mesa City Cemetery where she was laid to rest alongside her mother and son. To celebrate her life and legacy as she wished, family and friends shared loving memories, sang Happy Trails, let off balloons then dusted her casket with cocoa, Hershey’s Kisses, and roses.
