, 65, of Chandler, Ariz., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Oct. 17, 2019. She fought a courageous battle with breast cancer for more than six years. She was born in Mesa, Ariz., on July 15, 1954, to parents Evangeline (Eva) Felix Serrano and Ernie Serrano. She graduated from Seton Catholic High School in 1972 and was a member of the St. Mary’s Altar Society.

Stephanie grew up in the family business working at Serrano’s Department Stores and she was an entrepreneur as well. She was co-owner of Brunchies, a popular breakfast and lunch spot, which opened in 1981 and closed in 2016 after 35 successful years. She also co-founded Salina’s, a Mexican restaurant just outside of St. Louis.

With a keen sense for numbers and a savvy business mind, she took on numerous leadership roles within the community, including serving as a Chandler City Councilmember from 1988-1992 as well as serving on the Chandler Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. At the time of her death, she was a co-owner of Serrano’s Mexican Restaurants, which recently celebrated 100 years as a family owned business in Chandler, and ran the payroll and accounting for all five East Valley locations.

Stephanie was a devout Catholic and her faith and family were the greatest treasures of her life. Her quiet generosity touched many people over her lifetime.

She was preceded in death by her father (Ernie Sr.), mother (Eva) and brother (Thomas). She is survived by seven siblings: Carolyn, Ernie Jr. (Patti), Lisa Serrano Chavez (Freddie), Theresa Serrano Keel (Terry), Ric (Davonna), Lorraine, Billy (Andrea), as well as 11 nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

Visitation will be Wed., Oct. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Drive, Chandler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thurs., Oct. 24, at St. Anne Roman Catholic Parish, 440 E. Elliot Road, Gilbert. A private family burial will follow at Valley of the Sun Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Americare Hospice & Palliative Care.
