Shirley A. Butler

Shirley Ann Mary Loretta Angus Butler

was born on September 13, 1938 in LaSalle, Quebec. Her Scottish and French immigrant family literally built their own home on Central street, only steps from the corner Pharmacy store serving greasy French fries, sandwiches, and aspirin.  Her father was a commercial printer at the Montreal Gazette and her mother, a hard working family oriented woman, 1 of 14 children.

Shirley grew up under the love and influence of her many aunts, uncles, cousins and assorted family and reached out to broaden her horizons with the Air Force. She served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as Aircraft Woman 2nd Class.  She was a “Regular Force” Air Force Policewoman Standard Group and was Honorably Released, November 6, 1959.

She met the love of her life at 17, Michael Butler.  They married in Montreal several years later in 1962, and decided to move to the United States with their two young children.

Their trip was a leap of faith with a lot of hope and opportunity; it was all she needed to get going.  They moved, adapted and lived in Los Angeles, Portland, and San Francisco until their final move to a new company and a new life in Arizona.  Starting a new business in a new city was an adventure.  She was a full time Mom, as well as the office manager and all around business confidant!  She raised kids, did the billing during the day, cooked the meals at night, and made sure the family was tucked in at night.  Her time with Mike was full of love, laughter, good times, and family.  She was so proud for her final job, a grandmother.  After Mike’s death in 1999, she dived into life with various jobs, and her favorite one of all time, the grandmother.  She listened to them, lectured them, and loved them.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Michael Butler and her parents, Blanche and George Angus.  She is survived by her children Gregory (Erica) Butler, Kathleen (Richard) Sharman and her loving grandchildren:  Brianna (Cierra), Catherine, Cole, Adam, Trey, Luke and Josie, and her brothers, George (Carol) Angus and Ron (Kathy) Angus, of her home country, Canada.

A memorial service will be held for her at Desert Cross Lutheran Church,

8600 S. McClintock Dr. Tempe 85284, Saturday July 29, 2017 at 2:00pm.  A reception following the service will be held at the home of her son Greg. Friends and family are invited to come and share stories.
