Sarah passed away peacefully at her home in Gilbert AZ She was preceded in death by her loving husband Paul Gettys, sisters Helen McDowell & Jean Mitchell and brother Marvin Mitchell.

Surviving are three children, Rock Gettys of Cincinnati, Ronda Vest of Sun Lakes AZ and Reva Hord (John Hord) Maricopa AZ Grandchildren Mark Gettys of San Francisco, Lia Vest (Eric Moore) of Sun Lakes AZ. Gary Gettys (Aggie) of San Francisco, Valerie Vest (Robert Palmer) of Chandler AZ, Allison Tilton (Chase Tilton) of Queen Creek AZ Great Grandchildren Quinn Gettys, Aiden Gettys, Aliya Gettys, Whitney Tilton and Owen Tilton Sarah weighed 2 1/2 lbs at birth and was given 48 hrs to live.

Her family were “homesteaders” living in a sod house in eastern Colorado. Sarah was the 2nd of 4 children (Helen, Sarah, Marvin & Jean) Sarah received her teaching certificate from Greely College in 1937. She taught many different grades in a one room schoolhouse.

Her family moved back to her fathers home State of Ohio and Sarah soon followed. This was when she met her future husband Paul Gettys.

Paul was a principal and coach at various Ohio schools.

Included in 30 years of teaching were 9 years on Guam and 3 years in Lima Peru along with their time in the USA.

In 1966 Sarah, Paul & youngest daughter Reva move from northern Ohio to Cincinnati Ohio where Paul and Sarah started their own business.

After 16 successful years and many long days they retired.

Sarah continued to work as care giver  helping Paul cope with Parkinson disease. Paul died in 1995.

During these years Sarah writes a book “Clay for the Potter” which chronicles her life.

With daughters Ronda and Reva living in Arizona, Sarah decides to head west in 2007.

Until a couple of years ago Sarah was still very active going on overnight and many day trips.

With family members close by she enjoyed her many get togethers for birthdays, holidays and numerous other visits.

She will be greatly missed by those that were blessed to have known her.

Sarah set a wonderful example of being compassionate to one another and forgiving to one another as is written in Gods Word.
