Parker Shawn Young’s
nearly four year long fight with cancer ended on the morning of June 29. He was born on November 17, 2004, in Clackamas, Oregon. Shortly after his birth he moved to Chandler, Arizona. He attended Fulton Elementary School and SanTan Junior High School.
Parker was friendly, well liked, and enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family. He was an accomplished chess player and like most boys his age loved video games and going to the movies. Amusement and water parks were among his favorite places to get away. Parker was an avid sports fan and was especially fond of basketball. He loved the Los Angeles Lakers and was fortunate enough to have met his sports idol Kobe Bryant.
Parker was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. He endured over a dozen surgeries and years of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Throughout it all he remained cheerful and never complained.
He is survived by his parents Shawn Young and Cindy Olvera of Chandler, Arizona. They would like to express their gratitude to all of the doctors, nurses, and hospice staff who provided such expert care for their son. Sincere appreciation is also extended to the many people who have shown kindness to Parker. He will be greatly missed!
