OBITUARY

MICHAEL P. CORCORAN SR. VETERAN

Michael P. Corcoran Sr.

, 84, passed away on September 28 in Chandler Regional Hospital in Arizona after a brief illness. Michael was born March 28, 1935 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to the late Michael J, and Nancy Corcoran of Parsippany, New Jersey. His only sibling, the late Reverend Barry Corcoran, a Catholic Missionary who served with Trinity Missions, died in a plane crash in 1969 returning from Ecuador. After High school, Michael proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Iowa from 1957-59. Thereafter, he began working for United Parcel Service in 1960 until 1974. In 1974 he then went to work for Mack transportation and was an active member of Teamsters Local 177 until 1981. In 1984, Michael successfully  went through the Police Academy at age 49 and was thereafter hired by the Morris County Sheriff’s Department. He worked in the Department of Corrections until his retirement in 1995.

Michael, who had been a resident of Parsippany for over three decades, moved to Chandler Arizona in 1997. Michael remained active throughout his retirement pursuing his personal interests. He loved to shop with his wife and  collect antiques. Michael could often be found out working in the yard, and on his pool, undaunted by the hot Arizona sun. He loved driving his 1964 Jaguar MK10 and 1974 Cadillac Eldorado convertible around town and attending local car shows. A stuffed animal jaguar wearing a safari hat and sunglasses can still be seen perched on top of his 1964 Jaguar. Upon learning about the special interests of others, he would often canvass stores and thrift shops to find novelty items and collectibles and eagerly present them as gifts to friends, family and neighbors   .

Michael was an avid football fan and passionately followed the NY Giants and the Arizona Cardinals, On any given Sunday Michael could be heard yelling at the TV at a dropped pass or interception. As a veteran, Michael loved his country. In 2010 Michael became involved with and attended rallies sponsored by the Tea Party. Above all, Michael loved his family and his God. He regularly attended St Stevens church in Sun Lakes and St Juan Diego church in Chandler.   Michael is survived by Mary T. Corcoran, his beloved wife of 57 years. He is also survived by his three children, Michael P. Corcoran Jr. of Andover, NJ, Lori Mendoza and Colleen McGee both of Gilbert, Arizona. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ryan Corcoran, Kevin McGee, Caitlin Diebler, Michael J. Corcoran, Kyle Mendoza, Patrick Mendoza and his beloved great-grandchildren Kellan Corcoran and Dawson Deibler.
