Maxine Calley Dick

Oct, 14 2017 Maxine Calley Dick died the way that she lived peacefully and quietly surrounded by her family at her home. It is not the years in the life but the life in the years one lives that describes her life in so many ways. She was born on June 5th 1937 in Chandler, Az to Lenford and Bernice Calley. She attended Chandler Public Schools and graduated from Chandler High School in 1955. After graduation she worked at Chandler High in the attendance office, while studying at Mesa Community College. She married her 1st husband Carl H Dudding in 1957. Four children were born from the marriage, Edward (Wendy), Joseph (d), Douglas (Rheta) and John (Alicia). A subpoena wedding invitation precluded her 2nd marriage to John H. Dick attorney at law in 1973 that extended her family with four step children Janna (Tim), John (Tamara), Eric (Denise) and Scott (Carmen). Many attendees that were invited thought they were in trouble only to find out they were invited to their celebration. Maxine’s adventures were numerous with John. She kept a map of all the roads she and John traveled in Arizona as well as other states they visited. Since John loved hiking and Maxine not so much, the compromise was driving, because there was less stress and no mess for her or limited at best. Later after John passed, Maxine still loved car trips and you were never sure where she would land. North, South, East, West, Maxine would pick one then off we would go not quite knowing where we would land or quite know what to expect. Her one adventure lead us to a farm with a field full of sunflowers as far as you could see. Maxine loved flowers because they made her smile and sunflowers were her favorite. By her door is a sunflower with a welcome sign for all that enter that still hangs by her door today. Maxine was welcoming and generous of heart that opened her home to bring family and friends together. She worked as a volunteer treasurer at the Chandler First Church of the Nazarene and for many seasons was active in the church softball league playing 3rd baseman. She developed everlasting relationships from playing softball that lasted through to her passing. Her working career was completed working beside her loving husband John Dick as his legal secretary. Maxine always reminded John she had job security because he could never fire her because she worked for free. She was an active lifelong member in the Chandler Nazarene Church and sang in the choir, which was a joy for her. Maxine loved music and always kept her channel a on a Christian music station anytime she was in the van driving. Preceding her in death is her beloved husband John H Dick, her loving parents, and her beloved son Joseph Dudding. She is survived by her children and step children as well as 13 Grandchildren, her sister Lenice Miles and her Aunt Zona Mae Shepherd as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, Oct 21st at the Chandler Nazarene Church, 301 N. Hartford Chandler, AZ

Contributions can be made in her honor to the summer youth camping program at the Chandler Nazarene Church
