MAX KILLIAN SCHNEPF

I, Max Killian Schnepf, wish to inform you that on January 22, 2020, my work here was completed. My journey to earth came with a round-trip ticket, which I understood would eventually take me back home. Based on my advanced maturity (old age), I have been given a new, exciting assignment, beginning with a grand reunion with long-missed family and friends. Those in attendance include my parents, Jack and Maude Schnepf; my beloved grandmother, Elizabeth Damron; and siblings, Ray Schnepf, Dale Schnepf, Maudene Kanaga, Jack E. Schnepf and Darel Schnepf. My wife, Carolyn Ellsworth Schnepf, and my brother, Donald Schnepf are unable to make the reunion at this time.

My mission on earth began 90 years ago on December 22, 1929 in Tempe, Arizona on the Max Cotrell farm. Thus, I was named Max Killian (Killian in honor of my grandfather). When I was old enough to begin school, there was a mix-up regarding which grade I should attend. As a result, my mother took me to Mesa to live with my grandmother where I enrolled in Mesa Public Schools. I lived with my grandmother until graduating from Mesa High School with the class of 1948. I developed a great love for my grandmother. During my school years, I would go home on weekends to help out on the farm. In 1941 my parents moved to Queen Creek to begin a new farming operation. After high school I moved to Queen Creek to work full-time on the farm.

On a beautiful afternoon in February 1949, Carolyn Ellsworth accompanied her mother to our home to deliver an invitation to attend the first meeting of the newly-formed L.D.S. Queen Creek Ward. I fell in love with Carolyn the first time I met her and have loved her ever since. We married on May 15, 1950 in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. What a great 69 years and 8 months we’ve had together. It was a life of farming, developing several desert parcels into beautiful farms in Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Texas. We loved flying and owned several small private planes through the years and enjoyed trips throughout the U.S. and Mexico. I also enjoyed treasure hunting and gold mines, music, dancing, organizing things, serving in church callings, and, later in life had a fascination with technology, especially Apple computers.

My greatest love is my family. Carolyn and I were blessed with five children, Marlane Porter (Don), Larry (Terry Whiting), Cara Steiner (Mike), Douglas (Saundra Porter), and Liz Porter (Steve). Our blessings continue to multiply with 31 grandchildren, 82 greatgrandchildren (two more on the way), and our first great-great-grandchild due in April.

I invite you to join a celebration of my life:
