Mark W. Stucki

Mark Williard Stucki was born August 24, 1949 to Willard and Ada Stucki (deceased) and grew up in Paris, ID. Mark passed away in Arizona on June 24th 2017 after a courageous 20+ year battle with rheumatoid arthritis and other health issues.  Mark was a lettered track, basketball and football athlete at Bear Lake High School and remained a sports enthusiast throughout his life.  Upon completing his Civil Engineering degree at Utah State University, and Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Hawaii,  Mark went on to connect people across the country by building complex freeway systems in Hawaii, Texas, Arizona, California, and New Mexico. Mark married Valerie Layland on December 27, 1968 in Logan, UT. Their children (with spouses) are Rachelle (Jonathan Barrington), Ryan (Christina), and Jason (Fallon). Mark’s greatest joy in life was his grandchildren; Sienna, Shelbi, Blake, Gabriel and Cecilia.  He found his second “career” as a grandfather his most rewarding job. Mark loved to vacation with his children and grandchildren and some of his favorite trips were camping, going to the Imperial Dunes, visiting Bear Lake, and swimming with his grandchildren.  Mark’s upbeat attitude and mirth despite his constant pain and health issues was an inspiration to many. Mark spent the last part of his life with his family, friends, and loved ones. He is survived by his siblings including his dear brothers and their wives; Ronald & JoAnn, Curt & Jackie, Max & Rita, and Kathleen (wife of Richard).  He is preceded in death by his brother Richard, and sister Laraine S.Whitear. We give special thanks to friends and family for the expressions of love and visits with Mark. We also thank the doctors and nurses of the Caveo Home and Emblem Hospice. The funeral service will be held at the Bueler Chandler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Dr., Chandler, AZ on Friday, July 7th from 2:00-3:00 p.m. A small memorial with interment of his ashes will be held in Paris, ID at a later date.  In lieu of flowers please send any donations in the name of Mark Stucki to the Arthritis Foundation – Arizona Office, 5009 E. Washington St. #125, Phoenix, AZ 85034.

We were sad to hear about Mark’s passing. I have several fond memories of him, from the short period of time I associated with him in the last year of high school. The one thing that I remember the most was his infectious laugh. Had some good times over that last year in school. Our sincerest sympathies to Valerie and the family.

Mark was always fun to be around. He made the times worthwhile. He knew how to work hard and enjoy the moment. I have great memories of the 8 years we spent together at Emerson, Fielding, and Bear Lake High School (Class of ’68). Although he is missed, I know he is in a better place and free of physical pain. Valerie, God bless and keep you and your family.

Valerie & Family- I was truly blessed to have known Mark. He was one of the funniest, smartest, caring man/boss I knew. He loved his family and would speak very highly of Valerie, his children and his grandchildren. I will never forget him… I will always be grateful what he (and Valerie) did for me when I had breast cancer. I will continue to pray for the Stucki family.
