Marilyn Frances Garner

Marilyn Frances Garner, a long-time resident of Gilbert, Arizona, died Thursday June 27th 2019 of congestive heart failure.

Born in 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts, Marilyn was an only child to Wilda and Payson Cobe.  She grew up spending summers in Sleepytown, Maine.  She dearly loved her time spent living abroad in Holland, and was a medaled equestrian rider. From there she settled in Tempe, Arizona where she raised her 4 children and worked as a bookkeeper, entrepreneur and in the travel industry. Marilyn spent the last 20 years living in the Islands in Gilbert Arizona surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marilyn loved her family and was very passionate about animal rescue.  She spent her free time doing puzzles, reading, watching gameshows and was an avid contributor to the Gila River Indian Nation “casino”.  She enjoyed cooking large meals for her family and eating anything sweet.

She is survived by her son Joel Garner (Natalie Garner), daughter Sherry Elcox (Bobby Elcox), twin daughters Marilyn Irwin (Kelly Irwin) and Michelle Nedry (Geoff Nedry).  Grand Children Ashley Tyree (Devon Tyree), Amanda Elcox, Taylor Irwin, Twins Lauren and Kristine Irwin, Rachel Nedry, Alexander Nedry, Julia Garner, Lucy Garner, Great Grand Children Brielle and Gavin Tyree and cousins Dennis Heroux and Kim Sheridan.  Marilyn was proceeded in death by Bob Elcox, Tommy Elcox, her mother and father, her grandparents Thomas and Olga Murphy, her two children Gary and Phyllis, her aunt Alice, uncle Earl burgess and her aunt Helen Heroux.

Memorial Service will be held on Friday July 5th at 1:00pm at Christ Greenfield Lutheran Church – 425 N. Greenfield Rd, Gilbert AZ 85234.
