Marilyn Chalk Hinkle

, age 72, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2019 at her home in Gilbert, Arizona. She was born on June 16, 1947 to James Nielson and Lois Cardon Chalk, in Turlock, California. She was born just 11 months and 1 week after her sister Evelyn. She has two younger brothers, Larry and Bruce, and one younger sister Barbara. Marilyn was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 8 years old by her father James Nielson Chalk.

Marilyn’s life really started on May 30, 1971 when she met Dale Leroy Hinkle. They were married on February 5, 1972 and the Oakland, California Temple. During the next 10 years, they grew their family to include Kevin Dale born in 1973, Tiffany Suzette born in 1975, Scott Leroy born in 1978, and Karen Joy born in 1981.

On October of 2001, Marilyn and Dale moved to Gilbert, Arizona. Kevin and Karen were already living here, and not long after, Tiffany and Scott moved here too. They were members of the Chaparral Ward for all the years spent in Gilbert. Living only two miles from the Gilbert, Arizona Temple brought much joy and many great memories. We all love the temple Mom has done a lot of genealogy, especially for Dad’s family line. To see her family all seated together was the greatest joy of her life. She loved her missions to the Mesa Family History Center, the Mesa Temple and in the Gilbert Temple.

Through the years Marilyn has made many quilts for family and friends. Her love of quilting comes from her grandmother Lucinda Hurst Cardon. Sewing and family history have been her two favorite things to do. Family dinners every month brought us together to share food and fun. Birthday parties, holidays and Christmas added to our family fun. Having 7 grandsons was something she loved to brag about. These boys brought her so much joy. Marilyn was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
