Lucia Bonilla Ruona

12/31/1939-12/12/2020

Lucia Bonilla Ruona, 80, of San Tan Valley, AZ, was called to Heaven on December 12, 2020.  She will be sorely missed by those who called her mom, sister, aunt, cousin, “Granny”, “GG-Mommy” and friend.

Lucia was born in El Paso, Texas, to Sixto P. Bonilla and Consuelo Bonilla.  She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Wilmer N. Ruona, her son, Wilmer “Willie” Ruona, Jr., her daughter, Tricia Bonilla Ruona (Edward Flake) and her grandchildren whom she adored, Tyler Ruona, Preston Flake and Marina Flake, and her great grandchildren, Kaston and Breck.

She is also survived by her brothers: Victor Bonilla (Elisa), Raymond Bonilla (Joanne), and Sixto Bonilla, Jr. (Rosie), and her sisters: Rosario Alvarado, Bertha Urenda (Robert), Magdalena Herring (David), and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family whom she dearly loved.

Lucia worked her way up the ladder in the medical field starting as a clinic receptionist and ending as a Director at Penrose-St. Francis Healthcare System and then served as Administrator for a medical facility in rural Colorado.  She loved to spend time entertaining, especially with her family, and she always created a beautiful table and delicious meals for everyone who visited her home.  She loved gardening and had a gift to grow the most beautiful roses.  She enjoyed many traveling adventures with her husband and she was her grandchildren’s biggest fan at their sporting events.  Lucia was known as a kind and generous person with a heart of gold.  She volunteered in many different capacities over the years and always, always, always put others’ needs before her own.  She truly was an angel on earth.

Lucia is preceded in death by her parents, Consuelo and Sixto Bonilla and her sister and brother-in-law, Irene “Cookie” Garcia and Jesus “Chuy” Garcia.

There will be an intimate celebration of life for her in San Tan Valley, AZ on her birthday, December 31, 2020 at 3:00 PM.
