Lorraine Claire Jones

Lorraine Claire Jones

was born on October 14, 1936 in the small town of Johnston just outside of Providence, Rhode Island. Her parents were George and Lorraine Gagnon. The eldest and the only girl in a family of three brothers; Claire, as she liked to be called, moved from New York to Arizona in the mid 1980’s and was a Chandler resident for nearly 25 years. Sadly, on April 5, 2017 at the age of 80, we lost Mom due to complications related to a longstanding fight with pulmonary disease. In 1957 she graduated from nursing school in Michigan. Over the next 50 years, Claire dedicated her life to the nursing profession and the service of caring for others. Her experiences were wide and varied, and included: the hospital emergency room, the cardiac intensive care unit, nursing homes, and doctor office settings. Towards the end of her career she spent nearly a decade in home health care. During this time, she found a deep sense of satisfaction in connecting with and caring for her patients in their homes in a very private and personal way. When she was not working, she liked to garden. Turning her joy of gardening from a hobby to a business, she and her husband Chris of 26 years started, “Willow Brook Herbs”. Gaining local notoriety, they also enjoyed researching and restoring older homes and were often featured in local newspaper articles. They were active in the historical society; participating in annual candlelight tours of historic places. She was active in her Church, St. Steven’s, as a member of the New Beginnings grief support group and the book club. She also deeply loved animals, speaking French when she could, playing the piano, and was a voracious reader. Claire is survived by: her brother Jerry, her son Jeff and daughter-in-law Cheryl, grandchildren Nicole and Ryan, and great-grand daughter Hailey. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Chris, and brothers Gilbert and George. Claire was a caring and loving mom, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be missed greatly. Mass will be held at St. Steven’s Catholic Community at 24827 S. Dobson Rd. Sun Lakes, Arizona 85248 on Friday, April 21st at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Bosco Catholic school or to azsheltierescue.com.
