Laidlaw, Roberta Bolling

passed away peacefully in her Tempe home surrounded by her family on September 4, 2012. She was born to Geraldine and Raymond Bolling on December 5, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Marshall Missouri High School in 1951. Roberta became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1967 at Mesa Community College, earned an Associate’s degree from MCC and became a Registered Nurse in 1971. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Northern Arizona University in 1979, and a Master’s Degree from NAU in 1981. Education was very important to her and was something she stressed to all of her children and grandchildren. In her nursing career, she worked for the Visiting Nurse Service and for the Maricopa County Health Department. She later became a school nurse for the Chandler Public School System and became the school nurse coordinator for Chandler and later was the school nurse at Powell Junior High in Mesa. She made a difference in the lives of so many children as she worked as a school nurse, and even after she “retired” from that position, she continued to work part time doing vision and hearing screenings each year for the children. Roberta met John Laidlaw and asked him to a Rainbow Girls dance some 65 years ago. They were never apart after that dance and were married for 61 years. She and John have five children, eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren: Melody (Duane) and daughters Melissa and Aimee, Mark (Doris) and daughters Tina (Josh), Ashley, Shannon, and Mackenzie, and son Chad (Heather), Michael and daughter Rosezann (Travis), and son Matthew, Mitchell (Kris) and dogs Parley and Gordo, Michelle (Barry) and daughters Molly and Stacie, and great-grandchildren, Marina, Ryann, Nevaeh, Joseph, Brianna, Grant, Payton, and Kendall. Roberta moved from Missouri to Casa Grande, Arizona in 1954 with her husband John and two children, and later moved to Chandler and then to Tempe. She was a 25 year survivor of breast cancer until her passing. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she was never too busy, too tired, or too sick to put her family first. She was very involved in the lives of all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always reminded them to “Get to bed and get your rest”. She is now resting peacefully in heaven. Roberta loved chocolate and traveling and to go 4-wheeling on ATVs with her husband, friends, and family. A visitation will be held Friday, September 7, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bueler Chandler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Dr., Chandler, AZ. Graveside services will be private and held Saturday morning. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 10:00 AM, at Dayspring United Methodist Church at 1365 E. Elliot Road, Tempe, AZ 85284.
