Koeta E. Jacobs

Koeta Eldyne Jacobs

, 83, passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by her loving family on November 30,2016 .

Koeta was born in Carmen, Illinois, on January 21, 1933 to Julius and Winnie Lefler.

She grew up on a farm in Biggsville, Illinois and graduated Biggsville High School in 1951.

She later went on to graduate Western Illinois University, majoring in English and Music.

Koeta continued her studies and received her Masters Degree in Music, with an emphasis on vocals at Northwestern University.

She met her husband, Sydney Wayne Jacobs, in high school, although he had known her from watching her perform on stage since she was a child. Their paths crossed again at their high school reunion and they decided to meet for a “gab” session.

Less than two weeks later, they were engaged and married on November 3, 1957 in Monmouth, Illinois.

In February of 1962, they moved to Chandler, Arizona, where they both continued their careers in teaching.

In 1965, they were blessed with a son, Kevin Lamar and later Kayla Renee, in 1968. Traveling was a passion of Syd and Koeta’s, one which they shared with Kevin and Kayla. Syd and Koeta visited all 50 states and took their children on many vacations, which included camping trips and visiting new places.

Her life truly revolved around her family, church and music. She was very involved in the church choir as their director, played the organ, and had many vocal performances, using her beautiful soprano voice. As time went on, her main focus became helping raise her seven grandchildren. She loved having her family over and cooking farmhouse style meals from scratch. Her backyard and house reflected her love for flowers and plants.

She had a passion for nature and saw the beauty in all of God’s Creation.

Throughout Koeta’s daily walk with Christ, she has touched and inspired the lives of so many people and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Sydney, her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lynn, her daughter Kayla, her grandchildren, Stephanie, Jason, Nicholas, Mara, Aerin, Brooke, and Matthew, her great-grandson, Henry, and her sister and brother-in-law, Thala and Fred. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Red Mountain Community Church in Mesa, Arizona.
