Kent Bishop Balthrop

Kent Bishop Balthrop

was born on September 7, 1939 to Pauline and Calvin Balthrop in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of three children; Kent, Gary and Jan.

He moved to California when he was 4 and met Betty when he was 16 at the neighborhood pool. They married in 1958 and were married for 62 years. They had 4 children, Craig, Christy, Kelly and Kevin.

Kent got his first job at the Gas Company before he started his career at Ford Motor Company, a career that he would retire from when he was 51. Over those years, Ford would take him from Pico Rivera, California to Wixom, Michigan and finally Toronto, Canada. When he retired, Betty and Kent moved to Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri where they would build their dream house on the lake and enjoy their time cruising the lake on their boats, fishing and golfing. Their true love, however, was golfing, so in 1999 they moved out west to Tucson, Arizona to live on a golf course and be able to enjoy another true love, owning and riding a Harley Davidson. Over the years, Kent and Betty had many travels at home and abroad; Portugal, Scotland and Tuscany being three of their favorites.

Unfortunately, in 2010, Kent and Betty lost two of their sons, Kevin and Kelly. To be near family, after 15 years in Tucson, Kent and Betty decided to move to California to be near Craig and Christy and their families. During the next 5 years they would enjoy many family gatherings and holidays.

In February 2020, Kent and Betty moved back to Arizona hoping it would improve Kent’s health. He passed away on September 1, 2020 in Arizona, the state he loved so much. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, dedicated work ethic and incredible love for his family.

He is survived by his wife Betty, son Craig, daughter Christy, daughter-in-law Elise, 6 granddaughters, their husbands, 1 great grandson and 4 great granddaughters.
