, 70, October 29, 1947 – December 18, 2017, was born in Los Angeles, CA. At the age of 6 months, Jerry was featured in the movie, I Jane Doe, starring Vera Ralston and John Carroll. From California, the family moved to South Dakota where he spent his childhood. He lived in Watertown, Sioux Falls, and then spent 2 years in Peever with his grandmother on the Sioux Reservation. At 17 years of age, Jerry enlisted with the Navy. He served three tours in Vietnam on the USS Kitty Hawk from 1964-1968. Jerry received several medals and a commendation in response to his immediate action and unhesitating response to an emergency situation combating a fire on board the USS Kittyhawk in December of 1967. After serving our country, he returned to Sioux Falls for a short time and then decided to move and settle in Minneapolis, MN. His first job was in local trucking as a driver and dock worker. From there, transportation became his career and he worked his way up to President of several companies in the Transportation Industry. His job took him to many cities and states. In 2002, he met the love of his life, Marla, whom he married in 2005. They settled in Maricopa, AZ. Jerry retired in 2015, but could never get his work ethic out of his system. He would help his sons, Darby and Clint, in the construction business and worked for the U.S. Postal Service in 2016. Jerry loved the outdoors and the Arizona sun. He enjoyed golf, riding his motorcycle and history of all kinds. He is survived by: his wife, Marla. Five sons, Heath (Linda), Darby (Becky), Clint, Marty (Jaclyn), and Jeff (Chrissy). Three daughters, Cristey (Bryan), Stacy, and Lisa. Three sisters, Janice, Connie (Mike), Patti (Steve), Three brothers, Jack, Mike, Barry. And sister-in-law, Jan. 17 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren. And many friends and co-workers he met along the way. He is preceded in death by his birth father, Ernest F. Myers, Father, Calvin L. True, Mother, Goldie A. True, and brother Denny True, and grandparents.
Services will be held Friday, December 22, 2017 at Bueler Chandler Mortuary, 14W. Hulet Drive, Chandler, Arizona 85225. Viewing at 10:00am, Service at 11:00am. Internment at 1:30pm in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
