Janine Marie Prefontaine (“Jan”)

Janine Marie Prefontaine (“Jan”)

lived life to the fullest and passed away on Sunday, July 7th, 2019, lovingly surrounded by her children and grandchildren. A teacher, author, spiritual counselor, musician, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, she showed bravery and grace in her 5-year battle with stage 4 cancer. Jan was born on June 6th, 1947 in Kingman, Arizona. She quickly developed a keen love of spending time in Mother Nature, surrounded by Kingman’s mountains and frequenting the “White Cliffs” with her sisters and brothers. This love of nature followed her throughout her life; an avid hiker well into late in life, she never missed an opportunity to take her shih tzu’s, family and friends out to enjoy the wilderness. Jan’s sense of adventure ran deep; she traveled the country in her early adulthood, playing her guitar and singing across the Eastern Seaboard. She settled down in Phoenix, Arizona and raised a family before moving to Sedona, Arizona, where she completed her life’s work writing 3 books on spirituality and teaching about the rich experiences found within the “beyond”. Jan brought her sense of humor and authenticity into the world and genuinely connected to everyone she made contact with; she never knew a “stranger” and made friends with anyone she met along the way. Jan made it her life mission to bring love and light into the world– those who knew her can attest that she was successful. She is survived by: her daughter, Alexandria Atkinson (Daryl), and her son, Daniel Prefontaine (Theresa), along with her granddaughters Tatum and Sydney Atkinson, and her grandsons Corbin Atkinson, and Everett, Samuel and Jude Prefontaine; her sister (Sarah Hume), and brother Tim Key along with her 6 nieces and her nephew, and myriad friends, whom she considered family. Jan was preceded in death by: her parents, Father Robert Prefontaine and mother Joyce Claire Key, her sister Renee Prefontaine Jones, and her brothers Danny and Bill Key. A memorial will take place on September 28th, 2019, in Sedona, Arizona and will consist of spreading some of her ashes at her most special place, Chimney Rock (hike @ 10am), followed by a reception in the Sedona area (more details will be communicated through her’s and her family’s Facebook). We know that you (Jan) will be watching out for each of us and loving us from the “beyond”, as you did in life. We will all miss you so very much, and will do our best to continue your legacy of living God’s love here on Earth. Rest in Peace knowing you have served well both God and those who knew and loved you. We thank you for all the love you gave us in life and wish you love and light as you move on to the next great adventure!
