Harriet Charlene Thompson Manning

Harriet Charlene Manning passed away peacefully on March 8, 2017, in Sun Lakes, Arizona.

She is survived by her son, Wayne Manning (Sharon) of Sun Lakes, daughter, Gloria Manning of Sun Lakes, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 7 great, great-grandchildren, as well as her niece and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents George and Della Mae Thompson, her brother George Thompson, Jr. and sister-in-law, Mildred, as well as her beloved uncles Harold Dille and Charles Thompson, for whom she was named.

Harriet was born on November 14

th

, 1918 in Kansas City, MO and remained in that area for most of her life.

She graduated from Paseo High in 1936. After raising her family, Harriet began working as the hostess of Putsch’s 210 Club on Kansas City’s famous Country Club Plaza in 1960 where she remained for nearly 10 years.

From there she went to work in the cosmetics department at Harzfeld’s on the Plaza until it closed. She then sold cosmetics at Wolf’s Brothers until her retirement.

She and her daughter, Gloria, moved to Sun Lakes, Arizona in 2009, to be closer to family and enjoy the Arizona sunshine.

Ever the hostess, Harriet was always the life of the party and loved her fuzzy navels.

She was a die-hard KC Chiefs fan and “Chiefs” red was her favorite color.

She had impeccable style and class and was never without her infamous tube of red lipstick.

Harriet was always giving kisses to her family whom she loved so much and was so very proud of.

Services to be held at Bueler Mortuary in Chandler, AZ on Monday, March 13

Visitation at 5 pm, followed by a service at 6pm.

Harriet will be laid to rest at Park Lawn in Kansas City, MO.

“Kiss the Cook,” you truly will be missed.
