Gerald (Jerry) Stanley Macias

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020, in Mesa, Ariz., Gerald (Jerry) Stanley Macias passed away in his sleep at the age of 84. He is survived by his loving daughters, Kathy and Bridget, son-in-laws Mark and Bill, grandchildren Corey, Amber, Stacy, Brandon, Chelsea, Sarah and Emily, seven great-grandchildren, brother, Dennis, and sister, Lil, and god-daughter, Tracy.

Jerry was born in Chicago, Ill., on May 27, 1936. Growing up in the Windy City, he played football with his buddies in Grant park, cheered on the Chicago Cubs, and ate plenty of thin crust pizza from Vito and Nick’s. In 1977, he moved his family out west – to Arizona – for snow-free winters and slightly less delicious pizza. At 55, Jerry suffered a heart attack, but he wasn’t leaving this earth without a fight; his family was grateful to spend nearly 30 more years of life with him.

Generous. Hilarious. Strong-willed. A collector of memories. A lover of sports (how about them Cubbies FINALLY winning a World Series in 2016). A man who could eat cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner (but can’t we all??). Jerry was adored by many and left an impression on everyone he met. He left behind an unlimited supply of memories for those who loved him fiercely and unwaveringly.

While dementia may have taken his last couple of years, nothing will ever take the love his family has for him. We know he is at peace now, singing Polish songs with his mother, Louise, and eating Pappadeaux with his daughter, Brenda.

Services for Jerry will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. at Bueler Chandler Mortuary.
