Genelle Alexander Strickland
, 90, of Sun Lakes, AZ passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2017. Genelle was welcomed to this world in Penelope, TX in 1926, the eighth of nine children, born to Mattie (Grubbs) and David Lawrence Alexander. She married Griffin Strickland, Jr. of Brookfield, MO in 1951 who preceded her in death in 2008. She is survived only by her daughters, Kathi Strickland of Sun Lakes and Carol Johnston Nippress (Raymond) of Tempe; grandchildren Jesse James Nippress (Kelsey) of Seattle, WA and Jacob Russell Nippress (Brittany) of Tempe AZ; and great grandchildren Degan James and Cali Lynn of Tempe, AZ. Genelle attended the University of Texas in Austin; she was a TWA flight attendant based in Kansas City and worked for General Mills in Minneapolis and for the Police Department in Livonia, MI, a position she retired from after 20 years’ service. Griffin and Genelle moved to Sun Lakes in 1995. She was a delightful hostess and enjoyed travel, watercolor, gardening, and bridge. Friends are invited to join a celebration of her life at a memorial service at 10 am August 12th at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church Chapel, 9248 E. Riggs Rd., Sun Lakes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church, where her ashes will be interred in the Garden Columbarium. (Bueler Mortuary 480-963-6351).
