died peacefully, Monday morning–November 5, 2018–at the age of 97. He was born on October 30, 1921, at the family home in Mesa, Arizona, to John Franklin Horne and Louisa Pearl Bond Horne. His grandfather, Henry James Horne, was an Arizona pioneer, arriving in 1887. Gail attended schools in Mesa, his half sister Ruth Horne, being his first-grade teacher. He graduated from Mesa Union High School in 1939. From June 1941 to June 1943 he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Toronto, Canada. In 1943 he married Georgina Pilkington to which marriage was born two sons. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Italy. Using G.I. Bill benefits, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting at Arizona State College (now University). He taught accounting at his alma maters – Mesa Union High School and Arizona State – and earned a Master of Arts in Education. In January,1951 the State of Arizona issued him a CPA Certificate and he began practicing in a small firm. In 1957 he joined with Marvin Henry to create the accounting firm of Henry & Horne CPAs. In 1963 he married Miriam Claire Shelton. They were married until her death in 2016. He served as managing partner for Henry & Horne from 1976 to 1987, at which time he retired.  However, he continued to maintain his own CPA practice in Scottsdale until 2017. He is survived by his sons, John William Horne (Stella), Robert Charles Horne (Cheryl), stepdaughter Elise D’Apuzzo. In addition, he is survived by ten loving grandchildren and thirty-six adoring great-grandchildren. A public Viewing will be held Friday, November 16, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Dr., Chandler, AZ 85225. A family graveside service will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the City of Mesa Cemetery.
