Fredrick “Fred” McArthur
passed away while in hospice care on November 21, 2017 in Chandler, AZ due to complications from lymphoma. He was 58. Fred was born on September 22, 1959 in Escondido, CA, but spent most of his life in Arizona. He lived some of his childhood years in Yuma, and the remainder in the Phoenix area. Fred was never married, but excelled at making life-long friends through his personal hobbies and interests, as well as through his construction career. Fred enjoyed outdoor activities, particularly if they involved motorized vehicles. He rode the sand dunes near Yuma with unrivaled expertise, teaching others along the way. He was a master behind the wheel or handlebars, negotiating winding mountain roads, desert sand, or Phoenix rush hour traffic with equal ease. Fred positively impacted people’s lives in ways he might not have fully realized. He motivated people to accomplish their goals, even when they themselves lacked confidence. Sometimes gently, sometimes firmly, Fred guided his “students” to succeed. When people needed assistance, Fred was the go-to guy – whether it meant fixing a vehicle, towing, house repairs, moving, or simply being a consultant for all things mechanical or structural. Fred is survived by his Mother Suzanne, siblings Vicki, Michael, Nancy, and Becky; and ten nieces and nephews. Fred McArthur’s life will be celebrated at a private informal get-together.
