Ethel Louella Klemm Johnson

Ethel Louella Klemm Johnson

was born on December, 17 1939 in Denver, Colorado to Louella and Fred Klemm, and passed away peacefully on September 8, 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona, after suffering a sudden stroke the night before.  Left to honor her memory are her husband of 52 years, Donald L. Johnson, her children, Katrina Johnson, Rebecca (Jim) Klufa, and Daryl Johnson, and two grandsons, Derek Johnson and Jack Johnson, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Ethel attended Harding University, earned a teaching degree, and taught for several years in Denver.  Ethel and Don married in 1967 and she supported him in his Air Force career by keeping things running smoothly at home as they traveled from base to base.  Her husband had no worries when he was overseas, knowing that she was in charge at home.

Ethel was a beautiful woman, inside and out, and had a beautiful smile.  She shared her passion for books with many young women and their children, often buying books to help lead them to the Lord and His righteousness.  She had a passion for teaching children in public school, but more so in the bible classes she taught in church.  With her quiet, gentle spirit, she unselfishly cared for others during difficult times and by her example, taught others to do the same.  Her children and grandchildren have wonderful memories of her infectious laughter, singing hymns as she went about her day, and playing the piano when she thought no one was listening.

She was a lifetime member of the Florida College Society and the Hutchinson Bell.   She established an endowed scholarship at Florida College in memory of her sister, Florence Klemm. At the time of her death she was a member of the Monte Vista Church of Christ.
